As Egyptian Dina Meshref looks forward to represent Africa at the 2019 ITTF Women World Cup in October, the highest ranked African female player says she will prepare adequately for a good outing.
Dina, who will be representing the continent for the seventh time, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that she would embark on a training camp early to prepare for the event.
“I am happy that I am able to defend my title at the just-concluded Africa Cup here in Lagos, and that gives me another opportunity to represent Africa in China.
“I have plans for a training camp to sharpen my competitiveness because of the calibre of players that will be participating.
“I will be going to China on time to acclaimatise and prepare myself mentally,” the winner of the just-concluded 2019 ITTF Africa Cup women’s event said.
On her readiness to defend her title at the ongoing 2019 ITTF Challenge Plus Nigeria Open, the 25-year-old said she was ready to retain her title.
Meshref, who is seeded number one, noted that her participation in the Africa Club Championships and the ITTF Africa Cup held in Lagos would help her maintain focus in the challenge.
“I just participated in two major events and there is no better way to get myself ready to defend my title here in Lagos.
“Lagos fans have also been supportive whenever I play on the table and that has always been a boost to me when I play,” she said.
Her compatriots, Omar Assar will also represent Africa in the ITTF Men’s World Cup in November.
Over 100 players from 32 countries are taking part in the ITTF upgrade event at the Molade Okoya Thomas Sports Hall, Teslim Balogun.
The competition has been upgrade to a plus event by the ITTF owing to the number of athletes attracted to the competition and standard set by the organisers, Lagos State Government yearly. (NAN)
